Garden & Landscape Design

Cunningham Gardens provides in-house garden and landscape design services for private, public and commercial environments. Our approach is collaborative, considered and professionally managed, with a clear focus on delivering high-calibre, enduring landscapes.

  • Our process begins with a detailed on-site consultation. This stage allows us to gain a thorough understanding of our client’s aspirations, functional requirements and long-term vision, whilst carefully assessing the existing site conditions. 

    Following this meeting, we issue a written design proposal outlining the agreed brief, fee structure and a clear breakdown of the design process.

  • A full topographical survey is then undertaken to accurately record site layout, levels and existing utilities. This technical foundation ensures all subsequent design work is informed and buildable.

    From this survey, we develop initial concept designs supported by curated vision boards. At this stage, the focus is on spatial layout, structure and overall direction rather than detailed specification.

  • Once the concept is refined, a developed design is produced. This evolves into a comprehensive masterplan, incorporating material palettes, spatial arrangements and key feature locations to define the overall composition of the landscape.

  • Upon approval of the masterplan, detailed technical drawings are prepared. These may include:

    • Setting out plans

    • Level plans and cross sections

    • Lighting and irrigation layouts

    • Construction details

    • Structural information where required for engineering approval 

    This stage ensures the project is fully resolved prior to construction.

  • Detailed planting plans are produced to illustrate the positioning of all proposed trees, shrubs, hedging and herbaceous planting. Each plan is supported by a comprehensive schedule specifying quantities, botanical names and planting sizes to ensure clarity and accuracy during installation.

  • All design phases are compiled into a structured design report, forming a complete and coordinated package. This documentation enables our team to prepare a comprehensive and transparent quotation for construction and planting works.

    We provide full in-house project management throughout the build process, ensuring quality control, programme management and clear communication at every stage.

Upon completion, we offer a comprehensive maintenance service delivered by our dedicated maintenance division, safeguarding the long-term success and establishment of the landscape.
